Perfect Spritz Cookies

Perfect Spritz Cookies

The perfect spritz cookie has a buttery and sweet flavor but not overly sweet, the flavor and texture is a cross between a cutout sugar cookie and a shortbread cookie. The tiny festive designs of using a cookie press are traditionally made as a Christmas cookie, but can be used all year round to make the perfect spritz cookies for all the occasions and holidays just switch out the disk designs and color of sugar for sprinkling on top of the spritz cookie.

Decorated Spritz cookieThe word spritz comes from the German word “spritzen”, which means to “squirt” because the dough is squirted or pressed. This is because the dough is pressed and squirted through a cookie press to make shapes and designs.  The spritz cookie is a German Christmas cookie made of flour, butter, sugar and egg, the German word for a spritz cookie is Spritzgeback.  Spritz cookies are said to have originated from Scandinavian countries, where they are known to be traditional Christmas cookies.
