This Cinnamon Roll Cake has all the flavors of a traditional cinnamon roll but as a cake. Making a cinnamon roll cake takes all the work and time out of making a roll but still has the same great flavor.
This is great for a easy dessert to bring to any occasion or if you be a great staple at a brunch.
To make this even easier, you could subsitute the cake ingredients for a box cake mix. Just purchase any white or yellow cake mix and make according to the package. Before you put it in the oven, top with the cinnamon filling and bake. Once out of the oven pour the glaze over the warm cake.
Cinnamon Roll Cake
Ingredients
- Cake
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup white granulated sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 3/4 cups milk
- 1/4 cup salted butter (1/2 stick), melted
- 1 egg
- Cinnamon Filling
- 1/4 cup salt butter (1/2 stick), melted
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar
- 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp ground cinnamon
- Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 1/2 Tbsp milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Directions
- Step 1 Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray 8in x 8in baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.
- Step 2 For the cake: In a large bowl, combine the cake ingredients, expect the melted butter.
- Step 3 Once the ingedients are combined, slowly stir in the metled butter. Stir until combined, making sure not to over mix.
- Step 4 Pour batter into prepared baking dish and set aside.
- Step 5 For the Filling: In a small bowl, combine all the ingedients for the cinnamon filling: melted butter, light brown sugar, flour and ground cinnamon. Stir until combined.
- Step 6 Evenly drop the cinnamon sugar mixture on top of cake batter.
- Step 7 With a butter knife, make swirly, marble like patterns all around the cake batter. Do this by dragging the knife throught the drops of cinnamon sugar and cake batter.
- Step 8 Bake the cake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Step 9 For the Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk togehter powdered sugar, milk and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Step 10 Evenly pour the glaze over the warm cake.
