Orange Chicken

Orange Chicken

Orange chicken with broccoli and cauliflower in a sweet and spicy sauce, is a prefect homemade chinese food favorite.

Orange chicken is one of my all time favorites, this recipe makes it so convenient to make it at home. The sauce has a prefect orange flavor with just a little bit of spice. You can always adjust the spicy, based off your tastes and spice preferences.

This is great served with fried rice.

Ingredients
  • Chicken
  • 1 cup canola oil
  • 2 pounds bonless skinless chicken thighs
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 1/4 cup Kodiak Cales Buttermilk Power Cakes Mix
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups steamed broccoli and cauilflower
  • Sauce
  • 1 cup Simply Orange Juice
  • 2 tbsp seasoned riced vinegar
  • 3 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp cold water
Directions
  • Step 1 Heat oil in a large pot over medium-high heat – until around 350°F.
  • Step 2 Cut chicken into bite-sized pieces and season with salt and pepper. Set aside
  • Step 3 Combine Kodiak Cakes and cornstarch in a gallon sized zip-lock bag. In a medium bowl, whick the eggs.
  • Step 4 Drip chicken into eggs, then added the chicken into zip-lock bag, shake to coat the chicken. Working in batches, cook several pieces of chicken in hot oil at a time. I worked in batches of 1/3 at a time. Cook for 4-5 minutes per side or until golden brown and chicken cooked through. Carefully remove and place on a baking sheet lined with paper towels. Repeat until all chicken is cooked.
  • Step 5 Make the sauce by combining the orange juice, vinegar, soy sauce, ginger, garlic powder and red pepper flakes in a sauce pan over medium heat. Whisk occasionally for 3-5 minutes.
  • Step 6 In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and water to form a slurry. Whisk slurry into sauce and cook, stirring continuously until sauce has thickened, about 3-5 minutes. Set aside.
  • Step 7 Toss cooked chicken, steamed broccoli and cauliflower in sauce, cooked for about 5 minutes over medium-low heat before serving.
  • Step 8 Serve with fried rice and garnish with green onions
